Week 6: Im a little hungry for these.

This week i will be sharing a post of the unexpected things that can be made out of chocolate. I find it amusing to see all these creations, its a little crazy for me because i dont quite enjoy so much of chocolate. So seeing these already makes me full. Who would ever thought chocolates could be a part of design? Lately, just about anything can be designed. Food, clothes, fruits, all things. So here are some of the chocolate object creations.

 Chocolate stamps

Chocolate knife

 Chocolate pills

 Chocolate toolkit

Chocolate scrabble

 Chocolate shoes!

 Chocolate pencils

 Chocolate keyboard

 Chocolate alphabets

 Chocolate nails

Its funny how I am tempted to eat chocolate right now. But i really think it takes a lot for people to create these things. They are not so easy to make looking at the shapes and sizes. So thats where the designer has to do his job.

Week 6: Can I have a dance with you?

Masquerade balls are events where people attend in a costume wearing a mask. These masks were used to conceal or hide the identity of the person who wears it during the ball. Usually at these events, people would be dancing with strangers whom they would guess their identity behind the mask. And also, would try to steal a womans kiss at the end, the one that stands out. I find this masquerade event to be very interesting. I am so fond of these masks to be honest. Id really like to own one. I had a friend who went to Italy last year and got one of these masquerade masks and i was instantly falling in love with it. I wished i could go there too. Masquerades were originated in Italy in somewhat 1300s. Most times. the women would be the ones wearing them but there are male masquerade masks too.

These masks are so pretty. The designs on the masks are so elaborate and detailed that makes it so significant from my own point of view. Some are simple too but theres just something about them that makes it look so elegant and like antique. Also, venetian masks are somewhat similar to these. Maybe they just have different terms to call it. But the designs on these masks are so breathtaking. Sometimes it could make you feel mysterious too. I wish they had these balls here where i live. I would kill to wear these masks!

Week 5 : Murphy's Law in Design

Another post for this week will be about Murphy's Law in Design.  This is actually my first time hearing about it. After I read about it, i actually laughed because its kind of like deja vu. Murphy's Law is actually an epigram that states that "anything that can go wrong, will go wrong". Some of the example of this situation occurred by this Law are as follows.

1. When you have 10 minutes to print your work before a meeting with a client, the printer will go out of ink.

2. When the printer goes out of ink, you dont have any cartridges to replace.

3. No matter what the size of your logo, its not big enough for your client.

4. If you dont make your website work on IE6 before showing your client, he will be using IE6.

5. If you show your client 2 work you loved the most and 1 that you are not really happy with, he will pick the one you dont like.

6. The time you want to launch your new site, it will take 48 hours for the domain to resolve.

You pretty much get the rough idea what this Murphy's Law is about now. Its like a series of unfortunate turn of events occurring to you. Some examples i can give that has happened to students in MMU are as follows.

1. Student does last minute work and tomorrows submission, computer crashes in the middle of the night.

2. Students submission is tomorrow and wants to print work before submission, printing shop is closed.

3. Student saves work for presentation tomorrow, external hard disk crashes the next day.

4. Student about to finish rendering assignment, software crashes and corrupts all files.

These are actually incidents that has happened before that i have bare witnessed in class for the years i haveve spent here in MMU. Its a little funny because it is like your somewhat jinx in situations you seriously feel like cursing the world about. Which is why i try not to do last minute work but even then sometimes its just fate and they are just not things you can control. All i can do normally is hope for the best.

Week 5: Container as the Content.

For this weeks lecture, Mr.Zul talked about some fundamentals of design and dimensions. Besides that, he finally gave us a topic to write on for this week. He called it "Container as the Content". When he first mentioned this, what came through my mind was a philosophical term that i learnt in Media Aesthetics class last semester. It is known as "the Medium is the Message". I am pretty sure they have the same meaning. This phrase was coined by Marshall Mcluhan. So back to Container as the Content. It has similar meaning and what i can deduce is that what it meant by the Container here is the Medium used. Which also means that the container itself is an important deal in delivering the Content which is normally the message. the Container itself should be given a lot of attention and studying before proceeding to its Content. Often I believe people overlooked the impact of the type of Container they choose when delivering a certain type of Content. That is why the type of Container we use for just about anything(for advertising/teaching/etc) should be taken into consideration carefully. It is because that Medium we use as the Container will affect society itself in little ways we dont notice. It somewhat creates a different perspective of how we receive the Content.

Week 4 : Cutleries about and around.

Cutleries are made of all the things you used to eat as an extension of your hand. They are commonly known as utensils such as knifes, forks and spoons. They are important tools used as we eat. There are so many brilliant execution of ideas in coming up with new ideas of cutleries. Here are some of it. Designers have come up with amazing cutleries ideas to spice up your dinner table. Somehow I feel that if i had these cutleries, I would have a better appetite eating my food. Wouldnt it do the same to you?

curved cutleries.

mechanical cutleries.

simplified lines cutleries.

folded wrapped cutleries.

toy like cutleries.

bent cutleries.

smooth cutleries.

fish shaped cutleries.

garden tool cutleries.

rounded cutleries.

I think its brilliant how most of them are very simplified. They come from simple ideas but made it very interesting. Most of them are made of silver that gives it a very elegant look. I am pretty sure people would love to buy these, as I would too.

Week 4 : Book ends anyone?

For people who love reading books, this ones is for you. I will be writing about book ends. Which will be very useful if you had a lot of books and you needed them to stay still. Book ends are used at the end of your standing books as a support so they do not fall over to one side or another. Designers have been really creative to come up with different designs which i find it very attractive to have them. Although, I am not a book person. But I would love to own these. They are so pretty and they are actually very simple ideas. Even then, I am so fond of it.

Alphabet staircase book end.

classy bear chilling book end.

These are just a few eye-catching examples of creative book ends that i found over the internet. I think we tend to overlook little things like book ends but in reality, everything has been altered and redesigned into amazing looking objects. In general i just love how the designs are so minimal in terms of colors and complexity. Hence, i would like to own all of the above. Thank you very much.
